Wood Bird Feeders for Wandering Birds

May 23, 2011 · No Comments · Uncategorized

If you have relaxed weekends and has a lot of time to use, why not build carpentry projects such as duncraft bird feeders? Every year, migratory birds are scouring around for food to allow them to travel at great intervals. You will have the chance to see birds in your yard and you are doing them the same favor, almost.

It is not difficult to do backyard bird feeders. You don’t need to use some kind of special or expensive materials for this. Just a hammer, saw and screwdriver will do the trick. The materials that you will require are pieces of plywood, some screws and nails. You need to draft a plan before you cut up the woods. You need to sketch your finished Finch Feeders. Better take measurements in order for you to figure out if the materials you have are enough.

After finishing what you have already done, it’s time to put it into action. Cut the plywood into the size of your choice. It is important for the pieces to fit together, just like what Figure 1 shows, and use sandpaper to smooth the edges of the wood.

To ensure that the platform or base of the feeder perfectly holds the bird seeds, it has to be wide and deep enough. If the droll yankee bird feeders are shallow, then there is a possibility for the seeds mixture to fall off. It is important not to keep the water on the roof and to do this, the roof must be slanted to make the water drip off. For birds that are large enough to properly eat, you have to make sure that the distance between the roof and the platform has enough space. If you don’t, then birds will not come back for your feeders the next time. Using a metal bird feeder pole would help you mount your feeders into your preferred area.

If you think that all pieces snugly fit in, then go ahead and screw the wood into its proper places. Do not tightly screw it for this may break the thin plywood. Once you have done everything that was instructed, your own wood bird feeders are done.

To make them look attractive and to add more protection, you can paint it or apply wood oil. The life of your feeder will be prolonged and will be kept from wear and tear. Using your bird feeder pole, place the feeder on top and situate it in your garden.

To introduce birds to your new feeder, create a food path leading to it. Soon enough, birds will find their way to your brand new feeder.

Basically, wood bird feeders are one of the many types of feeder that you can do. If you don’t prefer plywood as your materials, then better use large, empty plastic bottles or wire mesh for alternatives. You can add more feeders in your garden to amplify your bird feeding experiences.
